A recent PDF download date does not tell you which version of Indonesia’s Criminal Code you are reading. Law No. 1 of 2023 must be read together with amendments under Law No. 1 of 2026 and Constitutional Court decisions affecting particular provisions. An article number can remain the same after its wording or legal status changes. [1][2]

Three sources to check the current wording
Start with Law No. 1 of 2023 as promulgated. Article 624 sets a three-year period from promulgation, bringing the Code into force on 2 January 2026. Law No. 1 of 2026 on Criminal-Law Adjustments also took effect on 2 January 2026; Article VII directly amends provisions of the Code. [1][2]
Then check Court decisions concerning the provision you need. Distinguish decisions that change a provision’s meaning or binding force from petitions that were rejected, declared inadmissible or withdrawn. For a citation, open the operative order and record the date it was pronounced.
Changes that should be visible in the reader
| Article | What to check | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 599A | An inserted article after Article 599. Search must recognise the A suffix. | UU 1/2026 [2] |
| 615–616 | Deleted. The earlier wording needs a historical label. | UU 1/2026 [2] |
| 220(1) | Conditional interpretation concerning a complaint by the President and/or Vice-President. | MK 275/2025 [3] |
| 237(c) | Letter c has no binding legal force. The order does not invalidate the whole of Article 237. | MK 27/2026 [4] |
| 240–241 | Article 240 and its elucidation, and Article 241, were declared non-binding. | MK 282/2025 [5] |
These are examples, rather than a list of every amendment in Law No. 1 of 2026. The Navigator identifies amendment sources beside affected articles. For Article 82, also check Annex III to Law No. 1 of 2026, which is referenced in the provision on imprisonment in lieu of a fine. [2]
How to search the KUHP Navigator

The companion PDFs contain article text and elucidations with a clickable index. Deleted or non-binding article numbers remain in the index with status notices. Downloads are free and do not require a translation enquiry.

LegalTrans prepared this editorial consolidation. To determine the law applicable to an event, check the official texts, effective dates and relevant transitional provisions. The English wording in the reader and PDFs is an unofficial reference translation.
Requesting sworn translation of selected provisions
If a receiving authority requires a sworn translation, select the provisions you need in the Navigator. Add the elucidation or the operative Court ruling if those parts also need translation. Check the message preview before opening WhatsApp.
State the intended use, receiving authority, target language and deadline. LegalTrans needs to confirm the source documents and scope before providing a quotation. Selecting a few articles does not automatically include an entire statute or judgment. The WhatsApp button opens a draft; it is sent only when you press Send yourself.
